The Challenge

Predicting the life of anodes and protection provided by the CP system to a pipeline.

Predict the life of individual anodes, the protection potential on the pipeline and breakdown factor of the coatings.

The Solution

A BEASY model was developed to predict the performance of the CP system and interpret survey data.

The Value

The operator can obtain data from the model on the life of the anodes and the protection potential on the pipeline.

CIPS and DCVG (and trailing wire surveys for subsea pipelines) data can be input into the model to gain a more accurate understanding of the condition of the pipeline particularly where limited data is available.

Data from the model can be used to optimise future surveys.

The values of potentials and currents in the far field can be predicted. They are relevant to the assessment of interference with distant electric systems (i.e. other CP system, railways, grounding grids, etc)
